Ok, so by now we've done a lot of netflixing, eating, and meme sharing. If you're feeling a bit under-accomplished today and run out of things in your home to organize, why not tackle your jewelry box next?

We have put together essential steps to make your jewelry collection sparkle again!

ORGANIZE & SORT

Marie Kondo your jewelry. Take this time to really sort and review ALL of your jewelry. Take it out of the boxes, hiding spots, car crevices and bottom of your handbags. Leave no piece behind!

Lay it all out on a clean surface, like your kitchen table or bed. Sort into piles by category, i.e, rings, necklaces, bracelets etc. Then do a sub category for metals; silver, gold, rose gold, etc. (This is also a great time to take any photos of your valuable jewelry for insurance purposes)

Put any pieces that are broken in a designated box or bag. You can revisit this a later time as you may want to redesign, fix or recycle these items.

TO KEEP OR SAY GOODBYE?

Now that everything is all sorted, it's time to take a hard look at your collection. Follow Marie Kondo’s method - hold each piece in your hand or put it on. Next, ask yourself the vital question… does this item still spark joy or bring me value? If the answer is yes, put each piece aside for cleaning, keeping them in your organized piles. If the answer is no, think about someone who would feel joyful receiving it as a personal gift from you. Now is a wonderful time to send a heartfelt memento to someone + put a smile on their face!

CLEAN & STORE

Now, it's time to clean. If you don't have a  professional jewelry cleaner, you can make a simple, homemade cleaning solution!

DIY Gold & Silver Jewelry Cleaner

  2. Add hot water and drop in your jewelry, letting it sit for 10 minutes.
  3. Gently scrub with an old toothbrush.
  4. Rinse and pat dry with a paper towel.

DIY Plated Jewelry Cleaner

  1. Soak in a few drops of water and mild hand soap; or a few drops  of lemon juice in water.
  2. Clean gently with a soft bristle brush around gemstones
  3. Rinse with water and pat dry

Detangling Your Chains

You most likely have a bunch of necklaces that are all tangled.. Here are a few tricks to detangling:

Use a straight pin to gently pull out all of the knots. If that doesn't work, place the necklace on a hard, nonporous surface such as glass. Apply several drops of baby oil or mineral oil to the chain, then use the pin to untangle the links. Proper storage should help prevent tangling

Whew, great job! With your new lightened load, you may feel that your collection is lacking a few key pieces. Treat yourself and get a beautiful statement locket.

A locket holds a special place for your cherished memories, keeping them close to your heart. Most importantly, all of our lockets give back to charities doing amazing work now. Check out the charity page to see which virtue gives back to what charity.
